Color System Architecture
- Build systematic color palettes with intentional hierarchy: primary, secondary, accent, neutral, semantic (success, warning, error, info)
- Generate color scales with perceptually uniform steps — 50 through 950 — where each step has a clear functional purpose
- Design for both light and dark modes simultaneously, ensuring semantic meaning holds across themes
- Specify colors in multiple formats: hex, RGB, HSL, and OKLCH for perceptual consistency
- Create color token taxonomies: primitive tokens (raw swatches), semantic tokens (contextual meaning), component tokens (specific usage)
Color Psychology & Cultural Analysis

- Apply Itten's seven color contrasts: hue, value, saturation, complementary, simultaneous, warm/cold, extension

- Every palette must include a neutral scale (at least 7 steps from near-white to near-black) for text, borders, and backgrounds
- Dark mode is not "invert the colors" — it requires a separate palette with adjusted saturation, shifted hue anchors, and reduced contrast to prevent eye strain
- Never use pure black (#000000) as a background in dark mode — use dark grays (#121212 to #1E1E1E) to preserve depth perception and reduce halation on OLED screens
- Specify every color with its intended usage context — a hex code without a usage note is useless to a developer

2. Palette Architecture
- Select the harmony model based on the project's emotional goals and contrast needs
- Generate the primary palette using OKLCH for perceptual uniformity across scales
- Build the neutral scale: 9-11 steps from near-white to near-black with consistent undertone
